Rick Harman

Principal, Human Capital Consultant

Rick Harman has led Acute Consulting LLC since its inception in 2015. Throughout his career, he's served in a variety of senior HR leadership roles across functions such as Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, and HR Consulting at organizations such as Computer Sciences Corporation (now DXC Technologies), M&T Bank (formerly Wilmington Trust Company), Vanguard, JP Morgan and Capital One. Most recently, he was the Head of US Talent Acquisition and Strategic Projects for Ashfield Healthcare, a global leader in commercialization services for the healthcare/pharmaceutical industries, with more than 7,000 employees across 28 countries. Prior to Ashfield, Rick was the Chief Human Resources Officer/Vice President for SevOne, which is a majority-owned Bain Capital Ventures company with its headquarters in Boston and its Technology Innovation Center in Newark, Delaware.

Rick is a Senior Fellow, Human Capital Center of The Conference Board and a member of its Human Capital Analytics Steering Committee.


In addition to his business, Rick also volunteers at the University of Delaware Horn Program in Entrepreneurship as a mentor in its Startup Village. There, he advises undergraduate and graduate students as well as small business entrepreneurs on human resources related topics.

​Rick is a graduate of the University of Delaware, where he received a B.A. in Political Science and Government. He has also completed executive education coursework at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business and holds his Professional Human Resource (PHR) and Six Sigma Green Belt certifications from Villanova University. He is a certified Organizational Network Analysis (ONA) practitioner and holds dual certifications in People Analytics and Artificial Intelligence from The Wharton School of Business and MIT's CSAIL.

A leading, global professional services company needed help ensuring its total rewards programs were designed to compete in the local and regional competitive market for attracting and retaining top talent. The client was also working its way through a new global strategy to become a more technologically and digitally-enabled services company, which was creating a shift in its talent profiles and demands.

This was an outstanding first project to complete for a terrific and admired company. The size and scope of the work made it challenging and very rewarding.

HR Startup Consulting

Helping Build the Framework for a New Company

Our client is a startup on-demand IT labor marketplace company that matches technology service professionals with businesses needing contingent labor resources. The client needed help from the ground up with creating core HR practices for the company, which included a company handbook, helping establish its HRIS and Payroll platforms, recruiting, employee relations, and business development.

This was a fantastic project to complete as it not only allowed us to help a local startup launch its new company, but also created a new business in our home state and local community.

Talent Acquisition Strategy

A leading global financial services firm and one of the largest banking institutions in the United States. Acute Consulting partnered with our client to help identify critical tech talent to place across its technology and support businesses, including software engineers, quality analysts, architects, project managers, data, and marketing analysts. 

This work was extremely gratifying as it allowed us to help place roughly 20 individuals who were recently laid off from a tech startup and immediately match them with our client as a top employer in the area.
